Have you ever wondered what happens inside one of the City of Paramount’s metal manufacturing businesses? This October, residents will have an opportunity to get a closer look through a series of public facility tours designed to provide greater transparency and understanding of local manufacturing operations. The tours coincide with Manufacturing Day, recognized nationally on the first Friday in October as an opportunity for manufacturers to open their doors and show community members what modern manufacturing looks like.
Local tours give residents an opportunity to learn about manufacturing processes and operations, ask questions and better understand how the City and other regulatory agencies monitor compliance. These tours build on Paramount’s broader oversight of metal-related businesses through its Administrative Action Permit program. Businesses subject to the program provide the City with information about their equipment, processes and facility layouts, and must allow inspections by the City, South Coast Air Quality Management District and the local Fire Department.
Residents can currently attend the following tours:
- Fenico LLC (7805 Madison St.): Saturday, October 3 at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Capacity is limited to 20 people per time slot and is on a first come, first served.
- S.T. & I., Inc. (7517 Jefferson St.): Saturday, October 10 at 9 a.m. Participants must RSVP in advance with their name and phone number by emailing ar@sti-macroetch.com or calling (562) 634-6396.
- Weber Metals, Inc. (16706 Garfield Ave): Wednesday, October 28 at 10 a.m. Advance registration is available.
Some manufacturers are also offering virtual facility tours, giving residents another way to see inside their operations and learn more about the work taking place in Paramount. The City will post these videos, along with information about upcoming public tours on ParamountEnvironment.org/Metal-Manufacturing-Public-and-Virtual-Tours.
The City remains committed to transparency and providing opportunities for residents to learn and ask questions.
